Southwest Airlines Case analysis

Southwest Airlines Case analysis 1. Literature Preview from the analysis southwest Airlines is one of the airline organizations that practice good employee relations and this has enabled it as an airliner to stand out among the other organizations. An organization culture is established by the fact that it values Employees as valued partners, emphasizes teamwork, and allows staff to incorporate humor and compassion in the workplaces. This kind of people-oriented approach has been stimulating: employees, who feel involved and develop a favorable attitude to their working place, provide wonderful services, making customers loyal, and Southwest profitable. That being said, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, added expenses and the emerging competition, the airline industry is now negotiating the business environment that is fundamentally different and is based on the necessity to align with changing employee needs and expectations without disrupting employee engagement which has always been a key aspect of Southwest Airlines. The question that needs to be answered as a presenting problem is what Southwest needs to do further to improve the culture of the organization and employee engagement in a way that would maintain the high level of efficiency in operations and customer satisfaction. In this regard, it will be essential to analyze the relationship between employee engagement and customer satisfaction as a long-term sustainability measure that needs to be introduced by the company. 2. Variables ·                     Independent Variable (IV): Employee engagement (measured using a Likert-type scale survey assessing factors such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and motivation). ·                     Dependent Variable (DV): Customer satisfaction (measured through validated metrics such as Net Promoter Score, customer service ratings, and repeat business). 3. Research Question To what extent does employee engagement influence customer satisfaction at Southwest Airlines? 4. Anticipated Findings It is inferred in the study that there is a strong positive correlation between customer satisfaction and employee engagement. In particular, it is postulated that those employees with higher engagement scores will contribute to better customer’s experiences resulting in higher satisfaction and customer loyalty among Southwest customers. The rationale behind such a projection is the foundation of evidence in Industrial/Organizational psychology findings, indicating that people who feel engaged are more motivated, active, and prepared to put in some extra to their task (Riggio, & Johnson, 2022). In the case of Southwest, this has been shown in flight attendant, pilots, ground crews, and customer service representatives going out of their way to give pleasant travel experiences. The projected results also imply that pouring money into employee engagement activities, including leadership training, recognition and promo-codes, and improvement in communication practices, is bound to produce a positive impact on the customer satisfaction index. Including departments with consistently high employee engagement the latter can be predicted to attain better-reported Net Promoter Scores and customer loyalty as compared to departments that have a lower overall score. It aligns with the findings of the organizational behavior research according to which employee attitudes and behavior represent one of the key factors that influence the level of service quality and consumer perceptions (Harter, Schmidt, and Hayes, 2002). Finally, the results would support the need to preserve the Southwest organizational culture and place the focus on employee relations as a strategic tool. In the case of senior managers, the study would be of help to give evidence-based guidelines to improve engagement by adopting policies that are aimed at work-life balance, career development opportunities and authentic leadership practices. It means that employee engagement is an indicator of organizational health, not just internally, but also a lever of customer satisfaction and success in the long-term. By the increased investment in its employees, Southwest will be able to enhance its reputation as one of the aviation companies offering the best services and organizational culture.   References Harter, J.
