The Role of Accounting in My Future Career

The Role of Accounting in My Future Career My career of choice after graduate work will be that of management, the major of organization leadership and strategic planning. The areas I intend to be in charge of are operations, cross functional team coordination and make efficient and profitable decisions. As compared to the management, which will be primarily engaged with the leadership, making decisions and organizing teams, the aspect of accounting will become a significant contributor in my everyday work. The proper understanding of the accounting principles will help me learn the contents of financial statements, read budgets, and understand the financial consequences of the strategic decisions. To take the case of a new business plan development or even when expanding a business, I will be forced to go through balance sheets and income statement to ensure that the entity is financially viable. The accounting expertise will also help me in tracking the departmental budgets, evaluation of cost control mechanisms and area where resources may be maximized. I will also be supported by accounting data during the management meetings to justify my decisions and be able to approach a representative of the finance department. Personal financial management is a good place to use accounting skills even when the individual is not at the work place. The awareness of assets, liabilities and the cash flow will allow me to make wise investments choices, finance debt responsibly, and prepare long-term plans of financial feasibility. As such, I may not become an accountant, however, reading, analysis, and application of the accounting information as an activity will see me a successful manager and an individual who can effectively make such financial decisions.
