Problems and conflicts in a teams
1. the Organizational Mission
When organizations define their mission they gain focus through which everyone can work together toward shared targets. A non-specific mission results in departmental goal conflicts which create efficiency problems and team disharmony. ElectriGov suffered increased interdepartmental conflicts due to a mission which was either unclear or poorly understood because teams lacked fundamental direction to guide their choices. The lack of mission emphasis on collaborative innovation caused IT and customer service departments to fight over resource distribution. The organization achieves unity by defining its mission. This is because it ensures all member contributions support the overarching vision while building trust for conflict resolution. (Powers, 2012).
2. Team Roles clarity
Organizational success depends on defining all roles precisely because this practice eliminates both functional overlaps and unaddressed responsibilities and ambiguous tasks. Without clear role definitions organizations miss out on accountability and start to face responsibility disputes. Role confusion at ElectriGov apparently created at least two problems including duplicate work between marketing and operations teams for managing client complaints as well as missed assignments. Relations between team members become more efficient through defined roles that minimize organizational conflicts. Such teams can effectively resolve conflicts through the appointment of a project lead who will manage disputes in an orderly fashion yet can break the negative cycle of finger-pointing. Team members establish psychological safety because clear roles demonstrate their part in conflict resolution.
3. Competition Within Teams: A Double-Edged Sword
Productivity alongside innovation may grow from proper competition but unregulated rivalry works against collaborative efforts. ElectriGov almost suffered toxic competitive issues where departments deemed budget wins more important than shared organizational objectives during sales and engineering funding disputes. When departments operate independently through separate units there develops resentment and communication problems. Organizational progress requires leaders to establish collaborative rewards together with competitive targets by awarding recognition to groups who excel at teamwork. Maintaining team health requires building competition frameworks that enable teamwork between members. This is because trust-eroding competition leads to team deterioration. (James & Collins 1994).
4. Short- and Long-Term Goals in Conflict Resolution Meetings
Company goals include short-term solutions to deal with current problems. An example: creating a communication system to stop misinformation. The short-term aim for ElectriGov entails resolving a passionate department dispute about project scheduling to support instant joint work. A planning objective for long-term change includes reorganizing meeting procedures to add built-in conflict management sessions. Additional details will follow.
A task force should unite immediately to solve essential technical conflicts.
Long-term: Develop a conflict resolution playbook for future disputes.
5. Unhealthy Agreements and Leadership Responsibility
When groups reach agreement through superficial methods primarily to prevent discord they establish an unhealthy consensus which usually results from power differences and reluctance to face any opposition. ElectriGov's management team forced team members to accept unsound solutions through fake agreement methods which resulted in project failure because team members did not address their actual conflicts. The agreements damages relationships and prevents new ideas. Leaders should create structures which promote open opposition and natural conflict resolutions. The use of devil’s advocate roles and anonymous feedback methods allows organizations to discover real staff concerns. Open conflict resolution creates resilient solutions that creates an enduring organizational welfare. (Koç & Mietke 2022).
Conclusion
ElectriGov experienced conflicts because the organization had a poor mission with confused roles and bad competition between departments and flimsy agreements between groups. A combination of improved mission alignment together with clear roles and balanced competition and strategic planning and genuine conflict management enables organizations to turn conflicts into productive alliances which produce business success.
