Introduction
The focus of the company is on a mid-sized technology company that designs and develops software for the healthcare and financial sectors. HR with over 500 employees is responsible for recruitment, employee performance, and development. This is after all the HR professional interviewed has been at the company for more than ten years and is very knowledgeable on the hiring, assessments as well as retention of employees.
External Assessment Goals and Methods of Assessment
The company’s external assessment goals consist of attracting skilled candidates and of being culturally fit to that culture. The hiring process is built around looking for diversity and inclusion. Then these goals are reviewed in terms of metrics such as the number of qualified applicants, time taken to fill positions, and hiring managers’ feedback. Exit interviews are also used by the company to determine whether or not the new hires are still a good cultural fit over time. (Pattanayak, 2020).
The company conducts a multi-step process to assess external candidates. First off, your resumes get screened through an applicant tracking system (ATS) to cut down the candidates. Then there are screen phone interviews, technical tests, and finally, interviews that ask behavioral questions. They said for indicating cultural fit and teamwork, behavioral interviews, which probe into how the candidate dealt with past situations, are most useful.
Internal Assessment Method and Goals
The internal assessment goals are to recognize employees who may have the potential to become leaders or technical specialists. In comparison, they much prefer to promote those who already possess the skills in the company’s selection of potential leaders a heavily intensive and lengthy succession planning process.
The internal assessment is done twice a year and it is a requirement that the corporate performance reviews are conducted. Self-evaluation, peer evaluation, and manager evaluation are these reviews. The HR professional says the reviews are not only used for promotions but to determine what training employees need or where they might be able to do a better job in a different role.
Post-Pandemic Staffing Changes & Challenges
During the pandemic, the company made major changes to the way it hired and retained people. The move toward remote work brought with it expanding the company’s talent search to include candidates from other geographic regions, and thereby more opportunities but greater competition for much of the best talent.
Keeping remote employees engaged and retained was one of the reasons mentioned. To fix this, the company improved its virtual onboarding process and gave remote employees online tools to keep them connected. The same level of teamwork and innovation wasn’t maintained internally because we didn’t get to collaborate in person. In response, the company developed new digital platforms and regular virtual team-building activities.
Decision-Making in Hiring
Both the HR department and the hiring manager play a role in making a hiring decision. Still, the hiring manager pretty much gets the last word. This is where the HR team gets involved by assessing which candidates fit past technology skills and fit into the company’s culture the best. And they use a scoring system that ranks these things against each other to balance the objective results — test scores — against the subjective impressions gained in the interviews. (Holbeche, 2022).
Hiring Legal Considerations
This company also pays particular attention to the legal factors involved. The HR professional also explained that Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws require the company to follow if there is no discrimination going on in the hiring process. They also provide thorough background checks and ensure that all people selected meet the legal working requirements. Also, clients want to be assured that offers meet wage requirements for the job, especially when the candidates are from another state or country.
Job Offers and Negotiation
During an employment offer, the company normally attaches some of the requirements like a background check or a drug test. Finally, the policy of compensation and benefits is that the salary is negotiable according to the candidate’s experience in the job and the demand for such a professional on the market. The HR professional acknowledged that when a candidate has reached the final interview he or she is usually informed when turned down. Rejections are communicated, as much as possible, with courtesy. (Mahapatro, 2021).
Recommendations
Herein, several recommendations can be made based on the interview with the staff in the company to enhance the organization's human resource processes. Firstly, introducing clear measures that define what feedback can be given to the candidates who have been rejected in the early stages of the process can help the company build up a better image of the employer that is concerned with the further development of the candidates, and the secondly, candidates themselves could benefit from this process as well. Secondly, the implementation of 360-degree feedback as part of performance appraisal might give a broader perspective of the person’s performance, particularly those at leadership levels. Lastly, increasing the degree of freedom allowed in the south side of the salary conversation might make the company more appealing to the technology talent acquisition market.
Conclusion
The interview offered rather useful information about the practices that are actually implemented in this technology company. They are very rigorous in the external/ internal assessment and engage both skill and Values as indicators. The company has closely looked at the new reality after the pandemic and has shifted to remote hiring and more virtual ways to address team building. There are areas though that need a little focus in terms of staffing and retention like feedback of the candidates and negotiation of salary to improve.
