The Importance of Nutrition Education in Managing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
The type 2 diabetes mellitus is a long-term metabolic disorder that influences the body to use glucose. The cause of insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels are poor diets in the form of high content of carbohydrates refined, sugar and saturated fat. It is notable that nutrition education will be focused on providing the patient with knowledge, needed to be able to choose in favor of healthier food options, which could halt the additional development of the disease.
Additionally, nutrition education is an improvement of long-term self-management, during which the patient can be trained about the size of the portions to consume and the number of carbohydrates (American Diabetes Association, 2020). It is also possible to metabolize insulin with the assistance of the balanced diet that includes the excellent proportion of fiber that would also block the potential cardiovascular issues related to diabetes. Regular nutrition education offered to the patients leads to the improvement of glycemic control, enhancing of the quality of life, and decreasing medication dependence.
