Experiences with Formal Writing in the BA in Organizational Leadership Program
Introduction
During my course in the BA in Organizational Leadership program, I always wrote my academic papers in a formal writing style, without the use of contractions and first or second person perspectives. I felt that this strategy made me concentrate on the elements of objectivity and clarity that are essential in professional communication and academic communication. Although certain assignments permitted a more conversational style, the majority of professors insisted on the strict observance of the rules of formal writing. This anticipation occasionally contributed to making it difficult to express personal knowledge without applying the use of the words I or you, and it also enhanced my skill in making a logical argument and backing it with facts (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, and Strickland, 2022). I realized that through formal writing, I was able to incorporate scholarly sources to my benefit, with a heavy focus on the analysis and not the personal opinion (Graff and Birkenstein, 2018). On the whole, the application of formal writing conventions continuously helped to improve my academic skills and train me to create a professional documentation in the field of leadership.
