Differences Between Graduate and Undergraduate Research

Graduate research is not similar to undergraduate research because it is deeper, broader and more concerned with introducing new knowledge in the field. Whereas undergraduate research gave more emphasis on learning basic research methodology and reviewing literature, graduate research establishes essential pressure in terms of critical research analysis and synthesis of literature in addition to investigative research (Creswell and Creswell, 2018). The credibility will be important because the graduate students are expected to refer to peer-reviewed and scholarly sources because they would be required to be academically accurate in their work.

The reliability is also highlighted by the means of the constant data collection strategies and open results reporting. The relevancy is further intensified at the graduate level since research topic is supposed to be in relation to actual problems or gap in knowledge as given by the literature. An example is that a user could write a literature review on the theories of leadership as an undergraduate student, but as a graduate student, the researcher could develop a mixed method research examining the leadership effectiveness in telecommuting environments. Such variations indicate that graduate research has more rigor and independence
